Savannah Description

Savannah has established for itself a reputation that resounds well beyond the boundaries of Oxford. Quite simply they have set themselves up to provide food which has integrity in every possible way. Sourcing is meticulous, cooking is superb and presentation is immaculate. Steaks are a real speciality and when you order one they will be able to tell you where it came from - precisely. Of such care and dedication are great restaurants made. The wine list is intelligent and friendly with many by the glass and house wine at £9.90.

Your Reviews of Savannah

Mr Adrian Taylor (26 February 2003)

With great expectations my wife and I sat down for dinner at 'Savannah', and our first impressions led us to believe that we were in for a culinary feast, especially as we were greeted with the news the our night would begin with a complimentary wine tasting.

Unfortunately this is where the 'Savannah' experience started to become less enjoyable.

The wine tasting table only comfortably catered for three people at a time, we waited for 5 minutes to taste our wine and hastily retreated as another 5 diners were impatiently waiting to have their turn.

As we had arrived early we decided to have a drink before our meal, from what was a very impressive wine list, but did not appreciate the 15 minute wait. Our first courses were good, (chicken liver pate & seared tuna with elegant salads).

Our main courses were however decidedly average, half our main course arrived five minutes late which made the lumpy mash that accompanied my now chilling steak taste even worse. My wife’s main course tasted fine but was unattractively swimming in sauce. Just after spitting out inedible roasted onion husks, the meal was complete.

We did not want to linger too long but a 15 minute wait to get the bill prevented us from doing this. No blame can be afforded to the waiter as he was left in charge of eight tables. Management and 'cooking staff' (as 'chef' would be inappropriate description) badly let down what could have been potentially a very exciting evening.
