Scalini

1-3 Walton Street, London, SW3 2JD

This fine Italian restaurant is widely regarded as one of the best places in this part of London SW3 for those mamma-used-to-make-it kind of meals. Yes, there may be several restaurants nearby but Scalini is a complete package, except if a quiet romantic evening is on your mind, and is bound to impress you with an atmosphere that feels so full of life and spring, and colour schemes that convey a feeling of conviviality. Dishes on the menu are quite conventional but marked by zesty flavours and freshness which linger on the palate, so mull over choices such as baked avocado with crab coated with a creamy cheese sauce, cured ham from San Daniele with melon and other fruits, Welsh lamb with port and redcurrant sauce, and paillard of beef fillet with aubergine, tomato, garlic and capers.

The wine list features a Vintage Tunina, Jermann Friuli 2004, which is crisp, dry and has a marvellously complex flavour.

REVIEWS OF Scalini

Sandra (12 January 2008)

This is a fantastic restaurant. Very busy, but has a bustling relaxed atmosphere. The food is superb with good portion sizes and very good quality. The service is attentive and friendly but not overpowering and if you are lucky, the odd serenade from the headwaiter. A very enjoyable evening!

Bob (8 October 2007)

It’s a treasure of an Italian restaurant, excellent service and attentive without being overwhelming. The starter, Mediterranean prawns with aspirations to being baby lobsters, cooked in olive oil and garlic. It was delicious. Portion size would have been adequate for a main course. Sea Bass was cooked to perfection. The dessert, tiramisu was light and a perfect conclusion to a delightful dining experience. Highly recommended.
