Seafood Restaurant, The Description

That Padstow is now the culinary mecca of the southwest is very much due to the flair, influence and enthusiasm of the celebrated Rick Stein. The Seafood Restaurant could perhaps be described as the flagship of his operations.

The results of what you see on the TV are very much in evidence. The choice of menus is exciting, different methods of cooking are all there and the general ambience is relaxed but well-organised and efficient.

The wine list also reflects Rick's travels, currently centred on West Australia. House wines are upwards of £16.50.

There are rumblings about the cost of sharing the fruits of Mr Stein's travels, yet I have never heard any complaint from anyone who had actually been there. What is done is done well and professionally. You pays your money . . . . . . . . .

No children under 3 years.

Your Reviews of Seafood Restaurant, The

Helen (3 July 2008)

Having eaten in many restaurants around the country, The Seafood Restaurant was on my list of 'must go to'. Both being fish lovers, myself and my partner were expecting simple clean flavours that Mr Stein seems to wholly advocate, but I found the sea bass so strongly flavoured with vanilla, it was sweet and sickly, in fact I left half of my meal. My partner, while enjoying the experience of eating an enormous whole crab said it was so overpowered by chilli, the crab flavour got completely lost.

The service was at best efficient. We felt as though we were being rushed and no attempt was made to embellish any of the dishes and our waiter could certainly not be accused of being over friendly.

Overall, very expensive for what you are getting, had we paid about half of what we did I may have found the whole experience slightly more acceptable.
