The Seven Tuns is one of those places that once found you start hatching plans to alter your life style, move into the area, abandon ambition and settle down to grow vegetables - and drink.

To start with it's in the middle of nowhere. In summer you sit outside watching the stream drift by, in the winter you cosy up in front of one of their warming log fires. If the conversation wanes there is a skittle alley, darts, dominoes and shove-ha'penny.

The beer is exemplary, and a reasonable choice of malt whiskies delights the connoisseurs.

Food is simple but very good. Sandwiches, home-made fish-cakes, fish and chips, or a decent sized sirloin steak are all of the best. Families come and go, dogs share the warmth of the fires, and ramblers leave the door open, as is their wont.
