My family and I stayed in Whitby for the weekend, and this restaurant was recommended to us by a friend. It had a relaxed atmosphere and the members of staff were both friendly and efficient. The menu had a good variety, covering both traditional favourites and Whitby seafood specials. The portions were very generous and the food was cooked to perfection. All of the food we ordered was fresh and not in the least bit oily. My husband was pleased that the pilau rice had replaced the bright pink and yellow food colourings, his pet hate, for taste and texture. Overall the food was excellent and the flavours were not disguised by over spicing. We would recommend this place for people who like good fresh food.

We visited Whitby for the first time last week and so this was a first visit to Shafiq. Should we ever be in Whitby again we will most certainly revisit this place. This was a wonderful dining experience - very welcoming, efficient friendly service and great food. Oh yes - reasonably priced as well.
