Shanghai Nights Restaurant Description
Here is a recently opened experience well calculated to make the burgers of Bristol sit up. The concept is a restaurant and VIP bar. Nothing much new there you say, but wait until you encounter their fine oriental dining, as different from Flung Dungs Diner as Monday to Saturday. There's an attractive dim sum menu but it's the a la carte you should steer towards for the full experience. Though it is worth mentioning that their dim sum are rated so highly that they are even supplying them to other restaurants as far away as London and Plymouth, however, for the freshest made, obviously Shanghai Nights is the place!
Most of the standard oriental offerings are there but what makes it exciting is the range of dishes that are new to many of us. Try the deep fried eel with honey and black pepper, or the braised chicken, with chestnut and dried shitake claypot. What is described as the seriously sexy lounge bar may serve as a haven before or after the meal but it certainly will not be long enough to let you work your way through the impressive cocktails list. For real kicks try the Nashi Collins.
Your Reviews of Shanghai Nights Restaurant
MTY (23 July 2008)
We went for the buffet deal on Sunday and my wife chose the dim sum. My wife couldn't eat some of the dim sum that she had chosen as she didn't like some of the herbs in the meat balls. One of the managers came to our table and rudely leaned over me and lifted up the steamers to check whether my wife had finished and then said that we couldn't have any more food until she had finished it all. She then repeatedly came to our table and checked the steamers with a stern face. When our bill came we were given a surcharge as she hadn't finished the dim sum. This was fair enough but what I object to is that we were treated like naughty children and were only informed of the surcharge upon presentation of the bill, which I think is a bit dodgy. People are entitled to leave food that they haven’t enjoyed. On the plus side the buffet dishes were good value and the rest of the staff were pleasant enough.
