Silk Thai

1122 Stratford Road, Hall Green, Birmingham, B28 8AE

A well-packed authentic Thai menu awaits those who venture into Silk Thai, the latest offering from Lek and Nigel Sansom, the former owners of Beau Thai. The name and venue have changed, but the standard of the cuisine and the service levels have, in fact, gone up a notch. The chef's recommendations there come in many forms that delight with barbequed beef and tiger prawns in chilli sauce and curries amongst the attractions. Minced pork with garlic and pepper wrapped in a lettuce leaf and seafood salad with lemon juice, onion and chillies entice guests in the a la carte bill of fare. The set two course meals served include star starters such as king prawns in filo pastry, spare ribs and chicken satay served with sweet chilli sauce and silk Thai peanut sauce followed by chicken with oyster mushroom sauce, mushrooms, chillies and spring onions for main course.

REVIEWS OF Silk Thai

I have been eating at Silk Thai since it opened and I cannot emphasise enough how exquisite the food is. I’m a real food and wine buff and I never visit any place more than once if it is not up to my high standards. Dim and Lay the owner and the Chefs serve up the most delicious and authentic Thai food every time I visit. The service is impeccable and friendly without being intrusive. All the members of staff just want you to enjoy their food and I can assure you unless you have no taste buds or appreciation for real Thai food you will not be disappointed. My friends and I go there at least once a week, sometimes twice, and we love to order loads of starters from the extensive menu and try everything and wash it down with beautiful wine or my personal favourite, the oaky, earthy Thai Whisky. They do the best soups; their fish soup, which has a clear, crisp, refreshing tang, is a beautiful golden colour almost like ice tea, it is filled with beautiful juicy, moist pieces of fish and prawns cooked to perfection, the taste is just sublime. I have never been a big fan of soups until I tried it at Silk Thai, and I can assure you I couldn’t sit still while I was ravenously spooning up the delicious soup.

Another favourite of mine is their king prawns wrapped in filo pastry. The beautiful crisp pastry just snaps and crumbles as soon as your lips and mouth encase it and then you get that sensation of the moist king prawn working with the crisp texture of the pastry. You may think I’m a bit crazy but as I said before I love food and I’ve eaten everywhere from Dubai to London but why shouldn’t we look what is closer to home. Silk Thai may not be a Michelin star place like others but it sure can give them all a run for their money. Don’t take my experience go to Silk Thai and see for yourself.

Following a recommendation my friends and I recently visited the Silk Thai and what a superb evening! The food and service could not be faulted even though the restaurant was very busy. The portions were generous but more importantly, the quality and variety was excellent and served with smiling efficiency. The prices of both the food and wine were very reasonable. My friends and I agreed that this must be one of the best Thai restaurants we have ever visited and we will certainly return.
