Silver Darling Description

Seafood it may be but it certainly has a French flavour to it, hardly surprising should you meet the owner, Didier Dejean. Named after the lowly herring it is possible to sit in the upper levels of the largely glass restaurant, which has been cunningly hoisted aloft the former granite Customs House, and enjoy sweeping views over the maritime activity of Aberdeen Harbour and approaches.

But it is, of course, the food, with a heavy input from the dwindling local stocks that commands the real attention. It is difficult to find even the faintest word of criticism. The same high level of attention seems to have been applied to whatever dish is chosen, be it the delightful six oyster starter, three raw, three grilled with the most wonderful accompaniments or the gently poached Shetland halibut in a shellfish broth.

House wines at £14.50 and a wine list composed of a careful and distinctive selection of New World and old, including a useful collection of half bottles.

Your Reviews of Silver Darling

Ian Bryn Roberts (20 November 2006)

First ever visit to Aberdeen and the restaurant was recommended by a local friend, I was surprised and impressed by the menu, in fact such a variety it was hard to make a choice. However I had the scallops as a starter, absolutely the best scallops I have had and the presentation was superb. For the main course I had the turbot wonderfully cooked and beautifully presented again. The dessert menu again boasted an impressive choice I decided on a parfait with chocolate coulis out of this world. Overall possibly the best restaurant I have ever visited, well worth the four hundred mile trip.

Mrs Moran (18 July 2006)

First class, have never felt displeased with a meal. It is fair to say we only go for special occasions a couple of times a year. The views are to die for on a light summer night in the North of the UK, with light until late in the evening.
