Sinatra's Ristorante

My large family dines out at Hemel Hempstead every few weeks and it was my birthday celebration that took us to Sinatra's Ristorante recently. The staff were overworked and the food took long to arrive. It was cold by the time we got our vegetables. All dishes were bland and not very generous servings. When we got the bill we were appalled to see that we had been charged over £50 service charge and £40 extra for vegetables that we had not been given the opportunity to choose. The whole meal was very expensive and we all left feeling disappointed.

I went to Sinatra's for Valentine's Day and think it’s was one of the worst restaurants I have been to, for the money I had to pay. The only redeeming feature was the politeness and friendly nature of the staff and manager. The restaurant had pictures of Frank & The Rat Pack on the walls so I was appalled when the music they played consisted of Spice Girls, UK Garage and West Life. We were sandwiched in between two other couples - not romantic by any standard. My girlfriend's aubergine dish had sand in it and her minestrone soup tasted like it came straight out of a tin can. My steak had massive chunks of fat on it but that wasn't so bad, what made it worse was that it been drowned in sugary gravy. The seafood starter was greasy and tasteless, although the prawns I do admit were nicely cooked.

Overall the food tasted like school dinners or a bit like meals on wheels. I find this forgivable because I am by no means fussy and enjoy food for what it is. What I find completely unforgivable is being charged £75 for a set menu and two small glasses of wine for two people, when it tastes bad. They even took a £40 deposit for the table booking. I should have spent the money on groceries and cooked it myself – it would have been much better.
