Sketch - Lecture Room Description
Sketch is a complex and unique site. Conceived by French master chef Pierre Gagnaire and Algerian-born restaurateur Mourad 'Momo' Mazouz, it has attracted unprecedented media reaction for its myriad food, drink and entertainment styles since it opened in December 2002.
Gagnaire's culinary genius has inspired the menus throughout Sketch. His eponymous Michelin three-starred Paris restaurant has a distinctive menu style which Gagnaire has adapted for Sketch. Executed by his acolytes Gregoire Sein (executive chef) and Pascal Sanchez (head chef), the food is imaginative, bold, ground-breaking and delicious.
The Lecture Room and Library - Recently been awarded its first Michelin star in the 2005 edition of the annual Michelin Great Britain and Ireland guide, it is the epitome of the food experience at Sketch. Two adjoining rooms offer comfort, luxury, opulence, elegance and excellence, while each dish in each course comprises a series of impeccable tastes and sensations. The staff ratio to customer is geared to a very personal service. The wine list is international and carefully chosen to complement the food.

As a Canadian in London, I try my best to venture out as much as possible. A great way to eat through London’s finest is to sample their set price menus. I've heard many things about Sketch, but the one thing I didn't know was that it had a Michelin star. I'm lucky that my husband to be is really into his food. We made reservations for a Friday. The menu is called the 'gourmet rapide' and we were not left hungry. The starters were a combination of four dishes, which we sampled clockwise and all complimented our taste buds. We had a choice of three different mains to choose from - meat, fish and vegetarian, and they were substantial. We could choose either cheese or dessert and we decided to get one of each. There were coffee and delicious petit fours to finish off with. I do have a large appetite and I have to say, I was full. The service was great and the staff were nice, polite and attentive. I definitely want to bring some friends there, as there seems to be a lot to take in. All in all, it’s a great way to spend the beginning of the weekend.
