Sloop Inn, The Description
For those who like their food waterside in style, The Sloop has much to commend it. Supplemented by stupendous sunsets and memorable local ales, this is a place for connoisseurs of down to earth cuisine prepared with style and care.
Activity commences at 9.30-11am with a breakfast menu that kicks off for the delicate with toast and jams, moving towards a climax with the Little Piggy breakfast, or for the seasoned veterans of such matters, the Whole Hog, details of which I will spare you, though I was disappointed to note the omission of black pudding.
Light snacks and baguettes are available during the day, with deep fried whitebait, chef's mackerel pate, and moules marinière as regular favourites. Main meals offer a selection of unashamed comfort food ranging from deep fried fillet of cod to the famed Angry Dog, a 6oz burger made from best chuck steak, and tipped by regulars as a leading contestant for the best in Pembrokeshire.
The grill makes the most of Welsh black beef, with rib-eye and sirloin served with a selection of accompaniments that include garlic potatoes, red onion marmalade, a brandy, cream and crushed peppercorn sauce, and Stilton.
For sheer bliss ensure you must leave space for Granny's hot apple and caramel pie, with cream or ice cream on the side, or the most delicious home made bread and butter pudding.
The Sloop is a re-enactment of life in a harbour-side pub as it used to be, with a few unobtrusive modern additions that assist the pleasure.

Your Reviews of Sloop Inn, The
Jon (29 July 2006)
After reading the review of the Sloop Inn, I had high expectations of country riverside dining at its finest. I was very disappointed. The decor of the pub, the menus, the staff and most importantly the food did not come up to standard. Being as it was a nice evening we sat outside and to be honest didn’t fancy sitting in a smoke filled pub. The menu was basic, though reasonably priced.
Amongst our party we chose pate on toast, brie wedges, lamb chops, chilli con carne and lasagne. The deep fried brie was good, not over cooked, though chopped iceberg lettuce and quartered tomato is not what I could consider a garnish. The pate was also OK, but I think the bread could have been better. It would appear that a basic thin sliced loaf was used to make the toast.
The main course was in my opinion awful. The lamb chops served with vegetables and new potatoes was not good. The chops were over cooked and resembled beef in its looks. Stringy, tasteless. The vegetables were also over cooked. The lasagne with garlic bread was OK - the menu describes it as home cooked. I have tasted much, much better frozen lasagne.
The chilli con carne looked and smelt awful. It had obviously been microwaved in the dish it was served in, with most of contents splattered around the side of the dish. The nachos were burnt. In summary, this is pub food from the 70's. We will not go back.
