Sophie's Steakhouse & Bar - Chelsea Description
If you are looking for somewhere different, with that certain New York warehouse ambience, Sophie's is your style. Amongst relaxed and lively company you can enjoy good quality familiar food at prices that won't send your Bank Manager to an early demise. Pop in for a succulent steak sandwich, lunchtime, pre-theatre, or plan your next gathering here and take time over something with slightly more gravitas.
Á la carte dishes range from starters of a traditional prawn cocktail to a grand 10oz châteaubriand for two, salmon and haddock fishcakes, and slow-roasted free range chicken. Children are welcome and have their own special menu.
Homemade ice cream and sorbets, and dark chocolate brownie star on the dessert list. Service is prompt and friendly and there's a well-travelled wine list, starting with reasonably priced house wine.
The only drawback is their 'No Reservations Policy', which can lead to quite a wait for a table on busy weekends, so be sure to get there early.

Sophie's Steakhouse is a great place to have a meal in a relaxed atmosphere. Even better now that the smokers have been excluded. It would be great if they could expand the bar area and taking table bookings.

I ate there last Wednesday and was extremely unimpressed. I only opted to eat there as it was past 11 pm and Gaucho had stopped serving. I regret not having opted for Maroush on Beauchamp Place instead. My steak was completely devoid of taste. I made it known to the manager who seemed defensive and indifferent. I suggested that he go to Gaucho for a lesson in how to cook steak. The evening was topped of by a sighting of a mouse. In Sophie's defence, the wine list is fairly good and reasonably priced and the service (other than the manager) was good. I will not be going again.
