St Helena, The Description

This delightful restaurant in a small manor house at Elstow on the outskirts of Bedford is rightly popular and you will need to resort to guile if you want a booking at short notice.

Dishes cover a wide range and there is an undoubted Mediterranean influence - all are prepared with that unbeatable partnership, care and flair. Service is of the same order and formality is preserved but in an entirely positive manner. This is the sort of place which many of us would keep up our sleeves for that special occasion requiring reliable perfection.

I was introduced to St. Helena years ago by very dear friends who brought me there for dinner on one of my trips to the UK. It is one of my favourite restaurants in the world. The food is amazing, the wine list is generous and impressive, the service is impeccable and the warmth and all over feeling of welcome surrounds you from the moment you enter this establishment. Frank and Raff make you feel like a queen with the attention they give each and every patron, never forgetting a name after a first meeting. The décor is beautiful. Everything about St. Helena is inviting and makes you want to return day after day just to sample the many delicious items they serve. If you have never been you are missing out.

This has been and continues to be our favourite restaurant in the UK. Raffe always has his finger on the pulse and is so charming to boot. Love him to bits! Not forgetting to mention Frank. Although we now live in the West Country, we are looking forward to a return visit in early 2010.
