This delightful restaurant in a small manor house at Elstow on the outskirts of Bedford is rightly popular and you will need to resort to guile if you want a booking at short notice.

Dishes cover a wide range and there is an undoubted Mediterranean influence - all are prepared with that unbeatable partnership, care and flair. Service is of the same order and formality is preserved but in an entirely positive manner. This is the sort of place which many of us would keep up our sleeves for that special occasion requiring reliable perfection.

When I first walked through the entrance of St Helena, I thought there couldn't be much more an amazing restaurant in the world. The setting was beautiful, and the food was out of this world. The hospitality was wonderful and couldn't hope for anything better. I will certainly be coming back later this year.

We ate at the restaurant for the first time at the end of June. I had heard reviews from people who had previously visited and they had all been good. None of them could prepare me for what was without a doubt the best meal that I have had in this country - ever! The food was exceptional, all three courses and the wine list was extensive and although a little pricey complemented the food very well. We will be back shortly and would definitely recommend this to everyone who enjoys good food in a perfect setting.
