St. John Bar & Restaurant - Smithfield
26 St John Street, London, EC1M 4AY
Situated in a former smokehouse, the stark décor of bare floorboards, cream walls and large tables in straight rows at St. John Bar and Restaurant leaves the real spotlight deservedly on the food. Fergus Henderson and Trevor Gulliver's restaurant use some complex cuts of meat not usually found in mainstream menus and has continued to grow in popularity. This is a place where die-hard carnivores can get there teeth into a really meaty menu with dishes such as their signature roast marrow bone and parsley salad, to the likes of crispy goose and watercress. Amongst main courses braised beef and swede and smoked Gloucester Old Spot chop and chutney may vie with brill, leeks and tartare sauce, and rabbit saddle with white beans and bacon.Situated in a former smokehouse, the stark décor of bare floorboards, cream walls and large tables in straight rows at St. John Bar and Restaurant leaves the real spotlight deservedly on the food. Though obviously a meat eater's paradise, they serve excellent bread from their own in-house bakery.

REVIEWS OF St. John Bar & Restaurant - Smithfield
Bob Murray (29 October 2011)
The building and bar is excellent, it all screams history and the wine list is unbelievable. Problem is I'm a bit of a philistine and just don't get the menu, so much offal. Now I understand the history of food like haggis where you do not waste any part of the animal but thats because people were starving but in this day and age? I understand that the main guy here Fergus is meant to be an artist when it comes to food, I love the French house in Soho and this is where he came from so I have been told. Anyway I would say check St John out, you have to because it's a real experience just make sure you have a lot of money on you. The staff are helpful , real Londoners and even though I struggled to find any thing on the menu I thought I would like I hope to go back one day.
