Built in 1714 in the days when Bishops expected to be accommodated in nothing less than a palace, Soughton has come down over the years as home to many famous and distinguished people. It is a truly imposing building which must have made Archbishops wonder if they'd got it quite right. Surrounded by 150 acres of superb grounds, 15 minutes from the centre of Chester it is beautifully furnished and well deserves the appellation of luxury hotel. There is nothing ancient about the approach to the cooking which is very up to date, well-presented and exceptionally good value. I dined at Stables last night and I would like to say its one of my favourite restaurants in the area and a good restaurant is very hard to find. The members of staff are so friendly and efficient at what they do and it’s a joy, the food was and always is top notch. I hear people say its expensive but always try before knock it because you may be surprised. I can't wait to go again.

I recently attended an evening at the Stables Restaurant, which was most enjoyable. The food was excellent and the wine shop had a variety of classic and new world wines. The members of staff were pleasant and attentive; however, I was most impressed by the first class service provided by the bartender Gareth. It is most definitely a venue I will revisit and recommend to friends and colleagues.
