Stephan Langton Inn Description
The historic Stephan Langton Inn is an unspoilt and independently run traditional country pub and restaurant on the Wotton Estate in the heart of the Surrey Hills, which is celebrating 50 years of being designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Wanting to maintain the traditional atmosphere of the Stephan Langton, Chris and Rosie Robinson have decorated the restaurant and bar in colours and designs sympathetic to the location. A relaxed atmosphere prevails.
Food can be taken as formally or informally as you wish. There is a typical pub menu during the day and in the evening the restaurant serves a full one as well. Having taken on a restaurant with quite a reputation, the Robinsons are rising to the challenge and are building on its success.
The chef, Simon Adams, serves freshly prepared dishes using local produce as a preference. Abinger watercress soup, chargrilled English asparagus, Tillingbourne trout fish cakes and homemade pork pie with their own piccalilli are some examples currently on the menu. Other choices include slow roast pork belly, supreme of free range Sussex White chicken and a firm favourite is the chargrilled rib eye steak with dauphinoise potatoes and a hot horseradish cream.
The bar has also seen some changes with a new wine list that has 18 wines by the glass, a fine collection of Irish and Scottish malt whiskies and premium soft drinks and juices. Of the three cask ales, two are local including Shere Drop and Hog's Back TEA. Being in such a beautiful location, it is certainly worth a visit. Beware though! The Stephan Langton can be a bit difficult to find - just remember, once you get to the pond follow the lane that runs alongside it.

Your Reviews of Stephan Langton Inn
Danny Bananas (28 December 2007)
My wife booked the place for my birthday, what a treat it was! The dining room was tastefully decorated, the staff were knowledgeable, polite and friendly and the food was delicious. We were given French bread, caviar toasts, and the wine was superb.
After the meal, we asked about taxis and the owner (an affable Irishman) ran us back to our hotel. He would not take any money or a drink once we got there. How's that for service?
Rhys Hansford (15 December 2007)
I have previously worked as a chef for the past seven years and really enjoy fresh, simply prepared, locally sourced food. The place, in short is excellent. I have been for both lunch and dinner service and found the food to be of an extremely high standard, well presented simple and fresh. The sea bass in herb butter was cooked to perfection and the chicken liver parfait just melted in the mouth. The staff are friendly and relaxed. The menu is extremely well thought out and priced. The level of care and attention are good across the board. I would (and have) recommend the place to all my friends and family. I love it!
