Stone Cave Restaurant & Bar

111 Kingsland High Street, Dalston, Hackney, London, E8 2PB

Cave-like interiors with a water fountain and live music and belly dancing to boot make it abundantly clear that the management of this Turkish restaurant in Kingsland High Street expects guests to have a blast. A look at the menu and complementary sights and sounds may evoke happy memories of the land of the Bosphorus. Even if not, tuck in and enjoy the meal anyway. There's no mistaking the fact that a selection of kebabs and other traditional Turkish dishes chart culinary sovereignty straight away. While hummus, dolma, falafel and meze might induce déjà vu, others such as barbunya pilaki, red beans in tomato sauce, and tavuk sac tava, chicken with green pepper, onions, herbs and garlic, could be novelties.

The intriguing imam bayildi, which means the 'imam fainted', need cause no concern since it's just aubergine stuffed with onion, tomato, mushroom, green and red peppers, and chick peas. With vegetarian moussaka, grilled salmon and feta cheese salad the diner is back on familiar territory. Baklava or sutlac, homemade rice pudding, promises a sweet ending to the experience.
