Sukhothai - Chapel Allerton
8 Regent Street, Chapel Allerton, Leeds, LS7 4PE
Run by Yupah Kaewkraikhot, the restaurant is named after her birthplace, some 100 miles north of Bangkok, and opened in April 2002 to satisfy the growing taste for Thai food amongst Yorkshiremen, those most conservative of eaters. For a whole number of reasons it has never looked back. Voted by the Times as one of the best Thai restaurants in the UK and featured in the Good Food Guide for the last five years, Sukhothai's food is hard to beat and the staff are charming and helpful. Surroundings are minimalist and comfortable so that you can relax and enjoy the authentic flavours of the real thing as Yupah's distinctive interpretations of the dishes she has so successfully pioneered in Bangkok are introduced to a wider audience.Voted by the Times as one of the best Thai restaurants in the UK and featured in the Good Food Guide for the last five years, Sukhothai's food is hard to beat and the staff are charming and helpful.

Their yum wun sen gai, a bean thread noodle salad mixed with chicken, onion and fresh coriander makes a delightful starter. The pad prik moo, stir fried pork with fresh chilli, spring onions, bamboo shoots, carrot and onion successfully underlines the blend of sensations that is such a strong characteristic of Thai cooking.
Sukhothai (Dawn of Happiness is an accurate translation) is a place to watch as the sheer goodness of their cuisine, which sets new standards for its kind, makes its mark.

REVIEWS OF Sukhothai - Chapel Allerton
Daniel Steele (8 July 2006)
I read about this place on this site and then again in the Times newspaper, who rate it as amongst the 10 best Thai restaurants in the UK. I just had to give it a try. From start to finish just a great night out, top food in a beautiful restaurant, with stunning service. 5 stars all round. Highly recommended. Definitely hard to better on any level. Easy to park too. Raises the stakes to other Leeds Thai restaurants, and Sukhothai leaps ahead of the competition in my opinion. Highly recommended. Full of footballers, and soap stars if that’s your thing, Leeds Utd and Emmerdale that is.
Paul Garrick (4 March 2006)
I have now been to this restaurant three times (most recently on 19th February 2006) and have nothing praise for both the wonderful food and the attentive service. The restaurant is now much enlarged since my previous visits, as they now seem to have added the next door premises and knocked the wall through. This makes the dining area seem much more spacious but you'll still have to book on busy weekend nights as it is as popular as ever.
