Sukhothai Description

Literally meaning 'dawn of happiness' in an Indo-Aryan language, Sukothai opened its doors in 1991 as the first Thai restaurant in Bath. The place is not just about food; it's about enjoying the culture and history of Thailand, as is evident in the traditional surroundings that are filled with oriental artefacts.

They combine the very essence of Thai cooking with a unique blend of sweet, sour and spicy flavours, highlighted with lemongrass and lime. The main menu has starters such as baked fresh crab in zesty Thai sauce or steamed minced pork dumplings topped with fried garlic. The nua phad phed, tender slices of beef sautéed in hot sauce with basil and bamboo shoots makes for a delightful main dish. You could also choose from the chef's specials of stir fried lamb served with basil, chilli or aubergine. They also do an 'all you can eat buffet' from Monday to Saturday.

We have visited most of the Thai Restaurants in Bath, but this is our favourite and we visit it regularly. The food is excellent (flavour is not as hot as some, which suits us), the service is good and the staff are friendly and attentive. I would give this restaurant 10 out of 10!
