Surin Thai Restaurant Description

surin thai restaurant ramsgateThis is just the sort of restaurant that a resort like Ramsgate needs. Named after the hometown of Chef and owner, Miss Damrong, who has a cooking pedigree that would be the envy of most in her profession, and includes cooking for the Thai Royal Family, Surin offers a wonderful blend of three of the most delightful cuisines in the world.

The menu carries a mouth watering range of dishes, which in other places might be a cause for concern rather than rejoicing, yet here one knows that all dishes are freshly prepared, for which time should be allowed, so try not to spoil the experience by being in a hurry!

A short lunch menu takes care of the working day, and set meals remove the pain of having to make your mind up amidst this wonderland of graceful food. Amongst the appetisers look out for the mixed hors d'oeuvres for two, the classic tom yum made with prawns or chicken, and Thai dumplings filled with crab meat and minced pork.

One of the joys of these cuisines is their origin in countries with extended coastlines, hence great reliance on food from the sea, fried salmon with red curry sauce or stir fried squid with ginger, spring onions, pepper and mushrooms. There's also an impressive list of prawn dishes cooked with almost anything you can conceive.

Old favourites such as beef in oyster sauce; roast duck and cashew nuts; pork with basil leaves or for the veggies in your group, delightful fried spinach with ginger, garlic and tomato with oyster sauce as a main or side course, and vegetable dry curry in a coconut milk base; all bring the taste of simple but skilful blending of flavours to your palate.

For calming down the digestion, try the banana with coconut milk or lychees with ice cream. Surin beer is brewed on the premises with blond or dark variants, with an ABV that could be a cause for agreeable alarm if taken in abundance.

Surin is a wonderful place to be for anyone - for those with any sort of leaning towards the flavours of the Orient, it is heaven on earth. Don't wait around - just go - now.

Their colourful Website will have you salivating before you can say yellow prawn curry.

Your Reviews of Surin Thai Restaurant

Richard (22 December 2007)

I had lunch at Surin and I was the only customer during the forty minutes I was there. I had the set lunch. I went because I had read impressive newspaper reviews of the restaurant. The service during lunch was polite and prompt, without being intrusive.

Now the lunch: It was amazing! Crunchy hot spring rolls stuffed with fresh vegetables followed by chilli squid and rice. The flavours were fresh, clean, wholesome and penetratingly clear. I've spent all day thinking about that lunch - my mouth is still tingling with the experience. It’s a sparklingly good restaurant - perhaps I cannot guarantee that on the basis of one set lunch - but as a chronic fusspot and grumbler I was really impressed. What has Ramsgate done to deserve this? Nothing, I think. Surin, please move to Canterbury where I live. I’m going again as soon as possible.

George Shaw (20 November 2003)

The best authentic Thai food to be found in the whole of Kent and it certainly rivals the best in London. The extensive menu also includes a number of Cambodian and Lao dishes. Popular with locals, the yachting fraternity and a growing number of gastro tourists from London. Located by the harbour, fish is a speciality and the sea food tastes as though it's been specially caught to order. Uniquely, the restaurant has introduced its own range of 'Thai' beers, which are produced by a local micro brewery.
