Swallow George Hotel Description

One of the longer established members of the Swallow chain, the pleasant Riverside Restaurant is just that. Start with, say, a rilette of meats with a ceviche of beetroot. The roast pave of salmon with a Caesar salad was well-judged and mingled well with the milk chocolate truffle served with a compote of warm black cherries. Good wine list.

My husband and I had the misfortune to choose The George Hotel to celebrate our wedding anniversary and it was one of the worst meals I have ever had. The menu consisted of only 4 items, 2 of which were unavailable and the price for a 'Barnsley Chop' which turned out to be a single cutlet of lamb, was extortionate at well over £10, not including any vegetables. The food itself was appalling and served by staff wearing polo shirts and baseball caps, such as one might expect to see in a fast food restaurant or a holiday camp. The whole night had a distinct whiff of Fawlty Towers about it and never again shall I darken the threshold.
