Taj Mahal Restaurant

70 High Street, Old Town, Stevenage, SG1 3EA

Way back in 1964 when Taj Mahal Restaurant opened its doors, it must have been a huge effort to get locals to experiment with a relatively new cuisine; fast forward to the present day and you have a seasoned restaurant, which has established a loyal local following over the years. Healthy eating seems to be the norm here; so a chicken tikka chat might be followed by golda chingri albella, giant prawns grilled in a clay oven, cooked with chef's secret recipe and served with pilaf rice. Traditionalists will find solace at the sight of balti, karahi, vindaloo and rogan dishes, while those with a slightly stronger palate could go for the achari gosht, diced lamb cooked with green peppers, herbs and spices.

In an effort to provide diners food that does not mask the natural flavours, Taj Mahal Restaurant does not use food colouring in their tandoori chicken, lamb and chicken tikka, and keema dishes.

REVIEWS OF Taj Mahal Restaurant

Tracilwiles (1 February 2009)

My colleagues and I eat at the Taj Mahal every time we are in Stevenage for work. We always have the wonderful lamb bakara, this is a delicious curry, one of the best we have ever had out of the many that we have tried and we travel all over the country. We enjoy this dish so much that the three of us are attempting to replicate the recipe so that we can have this dish at home. If you are in Stevenage, try the Taj Mahal - lamb bakara, you cannot go wrong. The waiters are very friendly and the service is great, they even gave me extra chocolates when I asked for them. Brilliant!

We had a very great time there, fantastic food and first class service. You will love it there. The food is the best you can get in an Indian restaurant, even if you have never tried Indian food, you will feel at home. The members of staff are very friendly; they do take care of you and pay attention. One look and one of them is standing next to you immediately. A must go restaurant.
