An engaging old coaching inn, very popular with locals and visiting tourists alike, where the customer is treated as somebody they really welcome. The food is Northumbrian in character, but quite modern in interpretation. Bar meals are served in the warm and friendly bar area, with the same menu as in the restaurant, the only difference is that tables can be reserved in the large restaurant. Both are excellent, with fresh local produce much in evidence, rounded off well by a lively little wine list.Modern

It has a relatively narrow menu but the food was solid and above average pub food. It was busy for a midweek night, but clearly popular with locals. It is worth a trip if you are in that area.

I visited on a Tuesday and the food was first class. I ordered rare steak and have to say it’s the first time I've had a rare steak cooked to perfection for a very long time. The staff are friendly, service is excellent and an all round excellent location - if you are in the area and would like an excellent good value meal, I would highly recommend a visit.
