We always find Sunday lunch a pleasure here. The whole demeanour of the place appears rather gloomy, having been a convent, but the staff are welcoming and the food superb. Last week (as vegetarians) we had a choice of starters of cauliflower soup or roast yellow beetroot, singleton cheese and rocket salad in walnut oil dressing, Our main course was a tomato and blue cheese galette, and they roast our potatoes especially for us in oil, rather than beef fat. The desserts are excellent, and coffee and mints included, all for £14.95. We are always surprised that the place is not packed, but as the hotel looks very imposing, we think people believe it is going to be rather snooty and expensive. IT IS NOT - try it!
