Terrace Restaurant & Bar, The Description
High above Piccadilly, The Terrace Restaurant is one of the roomiest venues in London; with its vented natural sunlight captured in the shadows of the stone pillars, it boasts a blend of old and new world within its classical yet contemporary surroundings. Compared to the bustling West End below, the restaurant offers a relaxed and refined dining experience.
Alternatively, if you prefer a chic slice of a Venetian 'al fresco', lunch can be served on the balcony.
They describe their menus as, 'Being modern European with a cool fashionable twist, serving food which is mouth watering and sumptuous - satisfying the ultimate connoisseur'.
Particularly good value - especially for a top hotel restaurant in London - is represented by their fixed price menus at £14.95 for lunch for two courses and £18.50 menu served for pre-theatre.
The menus are seasonal and during a summer visit be prepared to find starters of a orange and olives salad and steak tartar with toast and soft herbs, warm hand dived scallops and corn chowder, juniper glazed duck with hazelnuts and lambs lettuce and a classic French onion soup.
This imaginative and diverse approach continues through to the main courses, a roasted poussin with apricots and herb scented couscous, braised rabbit with baby turnips, beetroots and sauce soubise, and pan fried sea bass with orange salad, olives and lemon jus.
Their pan fried Norwegian king crab with cocotte potatoes and bouillabaisse sauce, and breast of duck with confit red onions and lime beurre blanc makes an eminently suitable dish for an indulgent day.
Puddings continue on a high note with not only tasty options but creative names such as 'Classic', a bread and butter pudding with frozen apricot custard, 'Signature', a hot chocolate soufflé, or 'Allure', coconut and pineapple mousse.
Their afternoon tea can be similarly meaningful as you enjoy 'Tea on the Terrace', this is an experience that is all too rare in London these days.
