Terrace, The

33C Holland Street, London, W8 4LX

The Terrace is a little restaurant tucked away just off Kensington High Street. The venue is perfect to stop for a meal or coffee, while shopping or even to get away from the hustle and bustle of the street. A Mauritian husband and wife team, Nadene and Maya Ayacouty own the establishment and serve simple, seasonal modern British food to diners, many of whom keep returning because of the consistent quality of food and service. Their prime attraction is an elegant terrace with potted plants, sheltered by a large awning and surrounded by tall box hedges to keep the noise and rain away. The venue is kept warm by both their caring service and an outdoor gas heater. Starters might include seared foie gras with celeriac puree, rhubarb and raspberry marmalade - they recommend a glass of Gewurztraminer Gerard Neumeyer from d'Alsace with it.

Expect to find favourites such as chargrilled grass fed ribeye steak, pan fried fillet of sea bass and herb crusted veal escallop with chive potato puree, white cabbage and red currant sauce on their a la carte menu. Side orders include generous portions of mashed potatoes, green beans, wild rocket and parmesan.

Apart from these, diners can also choose from a set menu with tempting salmon fish cakes, chicken livers terrine with spinach on toast and roast lamb shanks. White, red and rosé wines are served by the glass and bottle. Their selection of ice creams and puddings are all made on the premises, so why not sample some?
