The Abbey Tavern

124 Kentish Town Road, Kentish Town, London, NW1 9QB

The old Abbey has had a pretty massive facelift and whilst traces of its existence can be seen through the haze of French mirrors, sandblasted brick, fancy lighting and neutral tones, the change, carried out by Shaun Clarkson is pretty dramatic and in keeping with the times. The food is traditional English pub grub alongside Caribbean dishes made from seasonal and fresh ingredients. Homemade pumpkin soup, deep-fried filo and butterfly prawns and thick cut chips with aioli define comfort food on a plate, and Jamaican peppered steak, Caribbean stewed whole bream and Abbey classic burger introduce a wide spectrum of flavours. Jerk chicken is prepared using the family recipe and is accompanied by seasoned rice and peas, coleslaw and plantain with gravy.

The Abbey offers plenty of dining options as well - a large heated garden, sunny roof terrace and two function rooms. There's live music twice a week ensuring that some best tunes from the sixties to the nineties reach your ears.
