The Ambrette Restaurant
44 King Street, Margate, CT9 1QE
The Ambrette Restaurant does a different take on Indian cuisine sans chicken tikka masala, curry and pappadums. Combining local produce with subcontinental flavours and spices and contemporary presentation styles, chef Dev Biswal pulls it off with panache, achieving a mention in the Michelin Guide 2010. Seasonal Kentish produce occupies pride of place alongside herbs and spices imported from India. A selection from the menu could include tender breasts of Godmersham wood pigeon, char grilled with ginger and spices and served with a game mince patty and tender chicken breast marinated in coriander, mint and green herbs, slow roasted and served with cucumber raita. Seafood includes Indian tiger prawns marinated with spices, char grilled and served on beds of garlic potato mash and grilled sea bass with mustard sauce, tamarind and peppers. The Ambrette Restaurant does a different take on Indian cuisine sans chicken tikka masala, curry and pappadums. Not many Indian restaurants serve chocolate samosas for dessert. The Ambrette's are crisp on the outside with a rich, dark chocolate ganache inside, and are served with cardamom sauce. Match the unusual mix of flavours with a suitable choice from a list of globally sourced wine, beer and spirits.

REVIEWS OF The Ambrette Restaurant
Steve C (14 March 2011)
After being told of The Ambrette by a friend, I decided to take my partner there and I am so glad I did. Each course is followed by an amuse bouche or sorbet and they just add to the whole experience. With Dev personally serving most dishes and explaining what each is, I can only say this was by far my best dining experience to date. The ambience is also fantastic and would recommend The Ambrette 100 percent.
Karen (10 August 2010)
This place has fine Indian cooking of the highest order. Beautifully presented dishes - the like of which you won't find on any other menu in the country. Dev Biswal is a rare talent. The menu features local seafood and game, though the daily changing menu often has more exotic fare from further afield - zebra, ostrich and the signature dish of fresh water Nile perch. Highly recommended!
