The Balti House
35-37 Heathcote Street, off Parliament Street, Hockley, Nottingham, NG1 3AG
The Balti House in Nottingham's trendy Heathcote Street is owned by Sabbir Hossain, a passionate restaurateur and cricket lover. The restaurant has become a popular destination to enjoy Indian cuisine and balti dishes in a comfortable burgundy and white ambience. When Sabbir is not in the restaurant, he does his bit for Bangladeshi cricket by working as an associate of the UK Bangladesh Cricket Association. You could even find him feeding young Bangladeshi cricketers while they're touring the UK. Coming to the food, Hossain works hard to create tasty dishes that change with the seasons. Starters could range from a hearty mulligatawny soup and chicken tikka, to sheek kebab and prawn puree that appear on a very tempting platter. The Balti House in Nottingham's trendy Heathcote Street is owned by Sabbir Hossain, a passionate restaurateur and cricket lover. REVIEWS OF The Balti House
Icehockeyboy (31 August 2009)
I renewed my acquaintance with The Balti House a year or so back, and having just eaten there this very evening, thought I'd share my experience. I first went there more years ago than I will admit, when it was The Curry 'N' Grill, and was impressed by the authenticity of the food served. Asians don’t usually eat the westernised version of what we accept as a genuine curry, but to my experienced taste buds, of the more European offerings, The Balti House has it spot on. That’s not to say I haven’t eaten the genuine stuff, but I must admit to liking the style offered there to satisfy our Euro palates. This is curry as I remember it to be when I first started eating it thirty-seven years ago, as a teenager, and having tried a lot of restaurants in the East Midlands, The Balti House serves quality food at really good prices. Not like the higher priced, perhaps trendier places in town that have sprung up over the last few years, where, usually in my experience, the décor is better than the food served. I would prefer to regularly dine at The Balti House in the slightly more modest surroundings than go to one of the so called trendy establishments, and know the food will be a tip top.

We had our office Christmas party at the Balti House and it was excellent. The mains took a while to arrive as there were 20 of us, however, the tray of starters kept us busy and they are definitely worth a mention. Problem was, you get so many starters per person and you want to try them all - by the time your meal comes you are full. I managed about half of my methi chicken, which was a shame as I really found it tasty. At around £20 per head, considering Christmas drinking, it was really good value; I preferred it to my regular Indian and will be going back.
