The Bell
Pensax, Abberley, WR6 6AE
From the outside The Bell displays a pretty acceptable version of the mock Gothic style. Inside it's a very different story. Described by one critic as an " aggressively rural alehouse", The Bell offers a warm welcome, an inspiring collection of beers, including Timothy Taylor's Best Bitter, alleged to be the only source of Bitter (not Landlord) from that brewery, south of the mystical line alleged to separate the men from the boys. The food served with this bounty is no less direct and such robust fare as faggots, pies, pork chops, sausages and steak vie for attention. The Bromyard sausage sits particularly well amongst these traditional victuals. Open fires provide a cheerful background of physical warmth, and newspapers with something to say, rather than a cause to shriek about, are to hand for those with a little time on their hands. From the outside The Bell displays a pretty acceptable version of the mock Gothic style.
