This pub is part of a row of 17th century cottages and has a charming wooded garden at the rear with a stream flowing through it, which is crossed by a small bridge. At the front is a terraced area and inside it has a stone floor with a large fireplace, log burning stove, and two bar areas. Five different walks around the area can be enjoyed by customers before a hearty meal with ales and lagers.

The menu features regular suspects like soup of the day with crusty bread and butter, and beer battered cod served with pea purée, tartare sauce and chips. Their set menus in weekdays bear the stamp of carefully selected dishes which compliment each other. Having options of two to three courses, the set menu offers dishes such as salmon fishcakes with crayfish and lime mayonnaise, and pan-fried chicken supreme with olive mash and roast pepper compote. Desserts include baked lemon tart with raspberry sauce or chocolate brownie with crème Chantilly. The Black Horse offers a wide selection of wine and champagnes.
