The Blue Strawberry Bistrot
The Street, Hatfield Peverel, CM3 2DW
The name may sound quirky for a rural setting such as this, but once inside you could be forgiven for thinking that you're caught in a time warp. The interior at The Blue Strawberry Bistrot is bedecked with old etchings and prints on the walls, antique books and ornaments and open fires. The menus change regularly and the cooking is a dedication to French techniques; whether it's potted duck liver pâté and venison steak presented on weekdays at dinnertime, or the prawns in classic Marie Rose sauce, and Blue Strawberry shepherd's pie with shredded braised shank of lamb topped with creamy mash for lunch with the family on a Sunday. The dessert selection is also reassuring with favourites such as meringue pavlova, profiteroles and rhubarb and apple pie.The name may sound quirky for a rural setting such as this, but once inside you could be forgiven for thinking that you're caught in a time warp. REVIEWS OF The Blue Strawberry Bistrot
Steve Parsons (15 March 2008)
We came across this restaurant whilst travelling to a holiday destination. What a find, the staff were excellent and attentive despite being full including a wedding party. The fixed course meals are very good value for money. Our meals were cooked to perfection and thoroughly enjoyable. We had the roast pork and chicken breast with spinach. Both were wonderful. The vegetables were fresh and perfectly cooked. Without question, a real gem for an all round eating experience. Many thanks for a very enjoyable lunch.

We were taken here by our Danbury friends last Saturday. I am very critical of restaurants and always seem to find something that lets them down. The Blue Strawberry is the exception and was just excellent in every aspect. Even though we were first sitting, we never felt rushed. I wish we lived nearer.
