The Bluebell Restaurant

117 High Road, Chigwell, IG7 6QQ

Opened in May 2001 by Greg Molen, The Bluebell, in High Street, has never looked back. Encapsulated within a 400 year old building the two separate dining areas offer contrasting atmospheres, but the good quality of the food and service remains the same throughout. Starters are as generous as varied and could include twice baked Colston Basset stilton soufflé, or pressed terrine of foie gras, confit duck leg and celeriac. Main courses have a brasserie feel about them with grilled fillet of Peterhead cod and char-grilled grass fed Aberdeen Angus beef heading the list. Puddings are a riot of indulgences drawn from various cuisines. Playing for England is the selection of fine farm produced cheeses, whilst a more continental influence offers a classic vanilla bean crème brûlée.

REVIEWS OF The Bluebell Restaurant

Laura Lewis (13 December 2010)

I visited the Bluebell restaurant last night for the first time. I wanted to spread the word and let the residents of Chigwell know in fact, that everyone from Mile End to South End have a lovely little gem of a restaurant on their doorstep that really is worth a visit. Nestled in between two houses on a standard Essex road is a lovely old building with a cosy and unpretentious interior, boasting friendly service from experience staff, and a good and varied menu designed with care and attention. This is my favourite type of place. Tasty and good quality ingredients, cooked well, with flavours that work together. Not too fussy, or shocking, or gregarious, there are no Heston Blumenthal style tricks on this menu. Really good food, and really good value - I had the three-course Sunday lunch for £25 and could not have managed another mouthful.

Annika Davies (11 July 2010)

A group of friends and I had dinner at Bluebell last Friday, and had such a wonderful experience. Apparently the restaurant is under new management and the manager was very amiable. All the staff were attentive and friendly. Even though the restaurant appeared to be full - there was a mixture of couples and groups, but the ambiance was just right. The staff were very professional and didn't appear to be flustered or hurried, spending time checking that everything was to our satisfaction. The food was sublime, with each course coming at just the right time. The menu was varied and managed to accommodate our group perfectly with vegetarian, fish and meat options. It was the little touches that made this restaurant stand out for us - the variety of bread to start, the waiter always knowing the right moment to come and top our glasses up with wine, right through to the chocolate fondants with our coffee. We had a wonderful night, and I will definitely be coming back here again.
