The Chequers Brasserie
Dean Lane, Cookham Dean, Maidenhead, SL6 9BQ
The Chequers Brasserie in Cookham Dean has been considered one of the better gastro pubs in the Thames Valley for the last fifteen years. They offer a seasonal menu supplemented by daily blackboard specials, all sensibly priced. Wooden beams and an open fire greet you on arrival at the Chequers, and there is a small intimate bar area with comfortable seating; and dining is either in the main older part of the building or a conservatory. Regular favourites among the starters include - seared King scallops with a crayfish tail risotto and an orange piquant syrup and foie gras parfait, toasted brioche, truffle oil and watercress salad - and from the main courses, fillet of smoked haddock with a soft poached egg and hollandaise sauce or roast rack of lamb, celeriac and potato boulangère, curly kale and shallot jus.Regular favourites among the starters include - seared King scallops with a crayfish tail risotto and an orange piquant syrup and foie gras parfait, toasted brioche, truffle oil and watercress salad - and from the main courses, fillet of smoked haddock with a soft poached egg and hollandaise sauce or roast rack of lamb, celeriac and potato boulangère, curly kale and shallot jus. REVIEWS OF The Chequers Brasserie
Dani Blake (18 June 2008)
The Chequers has a fantastic ambience and is very well presented with all original features intact. There is a lovely open seating in front where you can dine outside happily. Inside, you will find friendly and professional staff ready to help you. The menu is wonderful; you will always find seasonal meat and vegetables, accompanied perfectly and cooked to the highest standard you will find around the area. All in all, the brasserie is a perfect place for any occasion, be it friends meeting for a leisurely lunch, a romantic meal or a family occasion, this is the perfect place to go. I haven’t mentioned the extensive wine list because I would end up writing a 2000 word essay in the end!

The Chequers is probably my favourite restaurant with beautiful food and great experience every time I've been there. The intimate setting and character make it perfect on a winter evening, whilst the bright garden and outside tables are great for alfresco dining during summer. I went there for my birthday and the waiting and kitchen staff went out of their way to make it a great experience. I would especially recommend the scallop and crayfish starter, which is second to none.
