The Cock Horse Inn
39 The Street, Detling, nr Maidstone, ME14 3JT
The Pilgrim's Way, which was mentioned in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, has been around from pre-Roman times and The Cock Horse Inn which is on this historically renowned path is also well known, its fame crossing centuries as a stable for horses. Today it is famous as a place where you could visit with friends or family for a delicious traditional British meal. The dining room is warm and cosy with oak beams and bare brick walls and suitably moody lighting. Starters from the menu might include smoked mackerel quenelles on little gem leaves with horseradish vinaigrette followed by braised beef parcel encasing smoked bacon, mushrooms and winter vegetables on a potato gallette. Sandwiches and other snacks are also handy for taking care of hunger pangs while the range of homemade desserts is enticing. The Pilgrim's Way, which was mentioned in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, has been around from pre-Roman times and The Cock Horse Inn which is on this historically renowned path is also well known, its fame crossing centuries as a stable for horses.
