The Crooked Billet

2 Westbrook End, Newton Longville, Milton Keynes, MK17 0DF

A former coaching inn, thatched and with more than its quota of old world charm. Chef Emma Sexton offers a seasonal range of menus, with dishes whose ingredients come from reliable local suppliers as well as the pub garden. Start with the Cornish white crab meat accompanied by an Oloroso jelly and walnut cream and caramelised onion biscuit, followed perhaps by the duck threesome, duck breast, leg and duck sausage. To go with it a white bean, tomato and smoked bacon cassoulet, some shredded spinach and fried potatoes, rounded off with a chocolate marquise. Allow time for the wine list - not far short of 300 wines, peppered with classic names and years.

REVIEWS OF The Crooked Billet

Heather Rathbone (5 March 2010)

The Crooked Billett never disappoints. We have been dining there for several years and the food is always consistently good. It is certainly on a par with London restaurants. Staff are helpful, friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Food is innovative, modern British, always beautifully prepared and presented and their suppliers are listed on the menu. The cheeseboard and accompanying flight of wines is a great way to end a meal - if you have room! Their two course meal during the week is a real bargain.

Mike (21 August 2009)

It is undoubtedly still the best food around Milton Keynes. The gourmet menu is to die for and they probably have one of the best cheeseboards in England.
