Tucked away in a strategic part of Devon for access to some of its most beautiful countryside, the Inn has recently been on the receiving end of a major refurbishment that has been skilfully done, resulting in an even more appealing house than before. Plenty of wood panelling, open fires and non-smoking throughout ensures a restful environment in which to enjoy your stay, no matter of what duration.

In addition to a regularly changing menu spare a close look at the Chef's Daily Specials. Expect to see Cornish smoked salmon amongst the starters, the house deli board, a sort of English smorgasbord with an enticing range of goodies, or a dill and saffron prawn gratin.

Main courses could include something light such as smoked haddock fillet with a soft poached egg, a walnut and Gorgonzola ravioli, 12 oz gammon steak, smothered chicken and sweetcure bacon, a magnificent fisherman's pie, or Lamb Henry, a shoulder of lamb marinated in a rich minted gravy.

Their rhubarb crumble is in a class of its own, and the Garibaldi egg custard tart is in keeping with the ambition of the rest of the menu. This comfortable country retreat is a great find and should not be missed.
