The Don Restaurant
The Courtyard, 20 St Swithins Lane, London, EC4N 8AD
Quietly tucked away in a small courtyard near Bank Station, The Don started life, over 200 years ago, as a Sandeman Port cellar, but times have changed and the racks of port, sherry and Madeira have disappeared to be replaced by an elegant, light and airy restaurant. With walls adorned with original paintings and with huge windows overlooking the courtyard, The Don restaurant is an ideal setting for a Modern European meal, while the bistro cellar area reflects the building's heritage. The cooking reveals a fine balance of flavours with dishes such as tian of hand picked crab and avocado on a chilled crab bisque sauce, roast loin and braised belly of Black Bigorre pig with choucroute, and rum crème brûlée with shortbread.Quietly tucked away in a small courtyard near Bank Station, The Don started life, over 200 years ago, as a Sandeman Port cellar, but times have changed and the racks of port, sherry and Madeira have disappeared to be replaced by an elegant, light and airy restaurant. The cooking reveals a fine balance of flavours with dishes such as tian of hand picked crab and avocado on a chilled crab bisque sauce, roast loin and braised belly of Black Bigorre pig with choucroute, and rum crème brûlée with shortbread. Expect to find some more rustic, seasonal dishes on the bistro menu that could include lightly spiced butternut squash soup with crisp fried onions, fillet of haddock in beer batter with hand - cut chips, pea puree, and Yorkshire rhubarb crumble with vanilla ice cream.
The wine list is thoughtfully assembled with an extensive selection of over 350 wines and 25 champagnes, many of which are available by the glass as well as by the bottle.

REVIEWS OF The Don Restaurant
Rob K (25 September 2003)
Excellent food, excellent service, a very good selection of wine and knowledgeable sommelier, quite the best lunch I have had in the city - 10 out of 10.
