The Druid Inn
Main Street, Birchover, Matlock, DE4 2BL
At the west end of the Main Street in Birchover village lies a family-owned gastro pub called The Druid Inn. Owners Michael and Bryan Thompson and their parents Eric and Brenda do not take their 2008 and 2009 Michelin Bib Gourmand award for granted, and work hard to ensure the inn is one of the finest in the area. Choose from four different dining areas that vary from a cosy bar, and an outside terrace, to two restaurants, an intimate Upper one, and a more contemporary Lower one that has an open kitchen and is perfect for private parties. The same modern European menu is offered in each dining area, and the dishes are created from scratch using local produce from within the Peak District whenever possible. At the west end of the Main Street in Birchover village lies a family-owned gastro pub called The Druid Inn. The same modern European menu is offered in each dining area, and the dishes are created from scratch using local produce from within the Peak District whenever possible. Start with very well-presented honey-roasted confit belly pork with hoisin sauce and a spring onion and cucumber salad before moving on to a main course of free-range chicken breast with chorizo sausage and wild mushroom risotto.
There is a wide choice of well-kept beers, the inn's very own ale, and a wine list, which keeps most people happy.

REVIEWS OF The Druid Inn
Joy and Ron (1 October 2009)
We chose this restaurant during our recent visit to Matlock, to celebrate our wedding anniversary and it was fantastic. We were greeted in a friendly manner and politely led to our table when we were ready. We had the homemade soup to start, the braised beef and a steak for mains and shared a dessert and a cheese board to finish. Everything was cooked to perfection and served with grace at the correct time and in a good manner. We even had a long and interesting conversation about the local area with the manager at the end of our evening. We thoroughly enjoyed our anniversary.
J Jay (16 February 2009)
It was my first visit and I had no idea what to expect as we're from out of the area. I certainly enjoyed the food and all the choices of wine by the glass were excellent, but I can't say how much it was let down by the staff who, although they'd obviously had a really busy day, treated us almost like we'd interrupted their possibility of getting off early; they were a little dismissive and regularly thundered past our table as if in a relay. Please staff, don't be offended by this as for the most part everyone was pleasant, and I lay this problem at the door of the owners as they need to be more aware of what is happening in the dining room and delegate accordingly. It therefore stopped short of what would have been a really great evening. Please take note Druid Inn as I'd love to come back.
