The Fellow

24 York Way, London, N1 9AA

The Fellow may share its name with a famous race horse with a string of awards to his credit in the early 1990s, but this York Way gastropub still continues to run with pizzazz and lots of it. It's a cosy place with muted lighting, artistic light fixtures and seems like a good fit for the trendy up and coming King's Cross crowd. Then there is a decisive European twist in the otherwise modern British approach followed by the kitchen: capers, parsley and radicchio noisette accompany roast skate wing, while pumpkin, ricotta and hazelnut go the strudel way with vine tomato sauce. First-up a black pudding with poached pear and honeyed parsnips may impress, while caramelised oranges add a tangy note to a chocolate tart and honeycomb dessert.

When strawberries are in season it's hard to escape their allure, the more so when they are nestling on a scoop of whipped cream and shortbread.

There's a pleasant rooftop garden and delicious Sunday roasts, and there's still much else to recommend at The Fellow.
