The Fellow
24 York Way, London, N1 9AA
The Fellow may share its name with a famous race horse with a string of awards to his credit in the early 1990s, but this York Way gastropub still continues to run with pizzazz and lots of it. It's a cosy place with muted lighting, artistic light fixtures and seems like a good fit for the trendy up and coming King's Cross crowd. Then there is a decisive European twist in the otherwise modern British approach followed by the kitchen: capers, parsley and radicchio noisette accompany roast skate wing, while pumpkin, ricotta and hazelnut go the strudel way with vine tomato sauce. First-up a black pudding with poached pear and honeyed parsnips may impress, while caramelised oranges add a tangy note to a chocolate tart and honeycomb dessert. The Fellow may share its name with a famous race horse with a string of awards to his credit in the early 1990s, but this York Way gastropub still continues to run with pizzazz and lots of it. When strawberries are in season it's hard to escape their allure, the more so when they are nestling on a scoop of whipped cream and shortbread.
There's a pleasant rooftop garden and delicious Sunday roasts, and there's still much else to recommend at The Fellow.
