The Frog
Skirmett, Henley-on-Thames, RG9 6TG
Only 37 miles from the heart of London, The Frog is a pleasant survival from another age. Loaded down with oak beams and log fires, Frog makes few concessions to the fripperies of the times, but a subtle uplift in the food on offer is certainly one of them. The fairly fundamental tack of dishes like sausage, bacon and fried baguettes has been embellished by lemon grass and chilli mussels, watercress pancake parcels amply filled with smoked haddock, potato rosti topped with poached egg, smoked salmon and black pudding or roast rack of herb crusted Oxfordshire lamb, rosti potato and mulberry jus, followed by banoffee pie. The local ales are powerful and carry picturesque names like Sharp's Doom Bar, and at weekends when the place become really full it makes sense to book first.Only 37 miles from the heart of London, The Frog is a pleasant survival from another age. REVIEWS OF The Frog
Paul Reynolds (27 November 2007)
It’s an excellent pub and restaurant in the middle of the Hambleden valley near Henley and Marlow, yet only ten minutes from the M40. I have eaten several times at the Frog and it provides excellent meals, a la carte and specials with a decent international selection of wines. I have to mention the charming owners Jim and Noelle and their attentive staff who make the whole experience that much more special. For those looking for something a little bit different it’s ideal, it boasts a lovely welcoming fireplace, broad selection of malt whiskies, large country style rooms if you wish to stay, and great walks in the country. I would be going back.
