The Hardwick

Old Raglan Road, Abergavenny, NP7 9AA

Any suggestions that The Hardwick is a gastropub should be disregarded. Here they predate the gastropub era, back to those days of innocence when it was possible to walk into an old traditional pub and find good, soundly prepared food of a straightforward and satisfying nature. In fact, it very much leans towards being a restaurant. So it's not surprising to know that the cooking is loyal to the seasons and dishes are served with more than a flourish of imagination and natural skill. Amongst the starters, there could be a Trealy Farm cured meat and salami board with antipasti or grilled squid with chorizo, rocket and lentil salsa. A main course of local free-range Usk Valley boar lasagne and roast loin of pedigree Welsh pork, are but two examples of the versatility of this place.

REVIEWS OF The Hardwick

Fraser (6 September 2010)

Excellent experience! I thought it was good value for money given the quality on show. I nearly went back the following night, it was so good.

Mike Jones (4 November 2009)

It has been my ambition to visit The Hardwick and sample Stephen Terry's cooking after seeing him cooking on the great British menu on the BBC. My lovely girlfriend decided that after hearing me going on and on about it that she should treat me, and boy I am grateful and may even marry her after all. Anyway back to the Hardwick, the food was fabulous and at the end of a great chat with Stephen, what more could anyone ask for? Ten out of ten.
