The Hideaway
114 Junction Road, London, N19 5LB
In the permissive 1960s 'dougie's hideaway club' was one of the bulwarks of personal freedom whether it be flower power or whiter shades of pale. Nowadays it has transformed to a neighbourhood bar where the only things that get stoned are the homemade pizzas as they bake to an acceptable degree of flexibility. Described as airily thin, the pizzas are made with the best Italian flour, and topped with great cheeses and chorizo. Try the puttanesca, with capers, anchovies, cherry tomatoes, chilli, olives, mozzarella and basil, before savouring a small plate of chilli roasted pumpkin seeds, marinated mixed olives or hummus and flatbread. Finish with a warm chocolate brownie with ice cream or amaretti biscuits soaked in amaretto liqueur. In the permissive 1960s 'dougie's hideaway club' was one of the bulwarks of personal freedom whether it be flower power or whiter shades of pale. The music still lives at Hideaway, and can be very good with a high level of spontaneity and performance. A great night out when you want a change from fine dining.
