The Hinds Head
High Street, Bray, SL6 2AB
Bray is a quiet little commuter village not far from Maidenhead, known until recently for its questionably good fortune in having The Waterside Inn and The Fat Duck in its midst. Now those who are looking for something a touch less formal have joined in the fun, and under the wing of Heston Blumenthal no less, there is now a gastropub to meet the need. The surroundings are bucolic, with a long, low wood-panelled room that sets the mind at rest, and that's before you even see the menu. A wonderful array of user-friendly dishes, potted shrimps with watercress salad, Lancashire hotpot, oxtail and kidney pudding, rabbit and bacon terrine with char-grilled bread and Cumberland sauce, or steak and kidney pudding; yes, the general trend is towards good, hearty food that pleases.Bray is a quiet little commuter village not far from Maidenhead, known until recently for its questionably good fortune in having The Waterside Inn and The Fat Duck in its midst.

It is possible to eat at the bar, which places you marginally nearer to the admirable Hook Norton bitter, or in a nearby serviced dining room. This is a refreshing demonstration that one of the maestro chefs in UK has his feet firmly on the commercial ground and can tackle two sectors of the eating out market with equal skill.

REVIEWS OF The Hinds Head
Eleanor Bouvier (3 June 2009)
I took my family to The Hinds Head last weekend to celebrate my father's birthday. We collectively had a fabulous time and could not fault a single thing. The triple cooked chips and Scotch eggs were worth the journey from London themselves! We all raved about the oxtail and kidney pudding as well as the Aberdeenshire beef and bone marrow sauce with of course, those triple cooked chips. The service was great and the atmosphere likewise.
David (20 April 2009)
I went there recently for a Sunday lunch and was not impressed at all, the food was lukewarm, my starter of mussels were not cleaned and very gritty, roast potatoes were hard and roast beef was under cooked to the point of being raw and covered in fat. 12.5% was added to my bill for service charge which was a joke as the service was very slow. I did relay my concerns to a lady who I was told was the manager and she was very unfriendly, looking down her nose and didn’t seem bothered at all. I won’t be going back and certainly would not recommend.
