The Horse & Chains

79 High Street, Sparrow's Herne, Bushey, WD23 1BL

The town of Bushey, Hertfordshire has been featured extensively in movies and television shows due to its proximity to a couple of film studios. Yet, despite all the glamour constantly making its presence felt there, it retains an old world charm that manifests itself in the form of The Horse and Chains. This modern British pub is housed in a building that dates back to the 17th century and has been recently refurbished and taken over by Tom Aspey of Dylan's restaurant.   The Horse and Chains focuses on skilfully prepared simple meals that are fresh and seasonal and you can see the results when you order starters of smoked trout mousse with rye bread and lemon, or maybe a main course of sea bream with crispy potatoes, ratatouille vegetables and pepper sauce.

REVIEWS OF The Horse & Chains

James P (11 February 2011)

Thank goodness for the Horse and Chains! As soon as you step inside, you can’t help but get caught up in the lovely, warm atmosphere, where the friendly team really enjoy looking after their customers. I've become a bit regular as I live locally and it's great knowing this fantastic ‘gastropub’. There are seasonal menus and daily specials which balance originality along with more traditional hearty food. They are fair and firm believers in using fresh, local produce wherever possible, and you can tell! Richard, Siobhan, Nicky, Kelly and Ashley are always welcoming and lovely people to be around while you enjoy being served some of the best food in Hertfordshire. Oh, by the way, their Guinness is the best! Five stars!

Dylan (23 September 2010)

I must confess to having become quite the regular customer of this gorgeous little pub in Bushey, so I thought it was high time I wrote a review! The food is spectacular, and far exceeds my expectations every time. The service is fantastic, staff are extremely helpful, knowledgeable, accommodating, the atmosphere is warm, ambient, friendly, and hugely welcoming. The new owners - Richard, Siobhan and Liam, have breathed new life into the place with new menus, fantastic chefs, and nights like Tapas Tuesdays - Yum! My wife absolutely loves it there and always suggests it as the venue for our large family get together and meals. I highly recommend it and will definitely be back!
