The Huntly Restaurant

Best Western Orton Hall Hotel, The Village, Orton Longueville, Peterborough, PE2 7DN

Orton Hall is an attractive and quite unusual country house on the outskirts of Peterborough. There is original panelling about and the skyline has some affinity with the Victorian architects, Page and Garling, who remodelled Grimsthorpe Castle, not far away. Chef Kevin Wood presides over a kitchen which produces good food from the last decades of the 20th century, so nothing too adventurous but all of it sound. Braised lamb shank, pasta with roast garlic and coriander sauce, all well-served by attentive and friendly staff. A la Carte dinner costs about £28.00, lunch around £17.00 with house wine coming in at £11.50. A good place to take Granny or Ma-in-law, both of whom will feel completely at home and have a jolly happy time.

REVIEWS OF The Huntly Restaurant

Simon 29 (21 September 2008)

We had dinner in The Huntly at Orton Hall last Friday and were really impressed. The restaurant is at the back of the hotel so it’s a long walk in; however, we were greeted in the lounge and offered drinks, lots of comfortable seating. The menus were brought to us by a friendly chap that also offered a wine list. In our opinion the menu was varied and creative, lots of traditional things, but plenty of new things to try as well. The main restaurant is lovely, it felt like going to a ‘proper’ restaurant - and it sure didn’t feel like we were in Peterborough. The food was delicious, every single part of every course. Good wine - perfectly chilled. It was lovely to then relax on the sofas in the lounge with coffee and truffles and enjoy a drink. It was a great experience - 9/10.

I visited your restaurant on Saturday and was most impressed by the choice on the menu and the standard of the food. Most of all we were delighted by the efficiency and friendliness of the two waitresses.
