The Hurdles
Brockbridge, Droxford, nr Bishop's Waltham, SO32 3QT
If the thought of a charming Victorian pub conjures images of wood panelling, oak beams and an old world feel, then think again as The Hurdles' interior speaks of opulent style and design without negating the charm factor. Even the location can't come better than this, a picturesque Meon valley setting in the village of Droxford. On the menu classic bar staples are juxtaposed with modern British favourites, so expect to find battered fish of the day and chips alongside crispy duck leg with merguez sausages, apple and bean cassoulet and mash. Cod and prawn fishcakes are closely challenged by the likes of free range coq au vin with dauphinoise potatoes and red cabbage. Desserts are quite conventional with the sticky toffee pudding and Bailey's bread and butter pudding with white chocolate featuring prominently. If the thought of a charming Victorian pub conjures images of wood panelling, oak beams and an old world feel, then think again as The Hurdles' interior speaks of opulent style and design without negating the charm factor. REVIEWS OF The Hurdles
Trevor H (3 June 2011)
We decided to drop in as we were passing, quite by chance, for lunch. What a pleasant surprise it turned out to be. Even the bread platter as a sharing starter was the ultimate in bread section and the mains were delicious. Excellent ales and a smiling friendly service made our mind to return very shortly to sample the evening dinner.
Sue B (21 February 2009)
We were looking for somewhere new and decided to try The Hurdles based on the entry and customer review on restaurant-guide.com. We were so impressed with the food, the décor and the prompt and friendly service that this is likely to become our new favourite place for eating out. Among the starters was a sweet potato and duck hashcake served with a poached egg and butter sauce - a fabulous blend of flavours. The beef bourguignon was meltingly tender and full of rich flavours. We were so full we sadly had to skip dessert but even the coffee, often a disappointment in pub-restaurants, was delicious at The Hurdles. This place is a real gem.

Nando's - Eastleigh
With quality food, friendly staff, quick service and excellent value for money, Nando's is a great place to eat. Don't expect identikit, pre-fab restaurant interiors which are usually a staple of the larger chains; each restaurant is tailored to its local surroundings and customers, offering up a unique restaurant experience to go with the equally unique taste of legendary, Portuguese, Peri-Peri chicken.
