The Kings Repose

Featherstone Farm Hotel, New Road, Featherstone, nr Wolverhampton, WV10 7NW

Quite which monarch sought his repose here is not entirely clear but let's assume it is part of the story built round King Charles after his escape from Worcester, and one still wonders quite how he would have reacted to the flavours of the great Indian sub-continent wafting round his quarters. Let's be positive about this and assume that he would have enjoyed King's Repose Monkush as much as the next man, particularly those who now flock to enjoy the wide ranging menu on offer in the former barn of this ancient homestead. I always feel mildly uneasy about enjoying my Indian meals amidst English 16th century nostalgia, but I soon recover and get on with the business. Organise your life 24 hours in advance and go for the Moghul style leg of lamb.

REVIEWS OF The Kings Repose

STEVEY (9 October 2011)

Fabulous setting in old converted barn but badly let down by bland food and poor service, £14.95 for a King Prawn Balti is dear by any standards, with just 3 prawns (admitedly large) in an almost spice free curry sauce is not good value for money. After ordering it took 30 mins for starters then a further 1 hr 30mins for the mains to arrive, when i politely commented on the slow service, we were lectured that their food is lovingly prepared and quality takes time. after we had barely finished our meals, we were then told to vacate the table for the next party, late ocupancy of the table was entirely their fault, in general the food was below average. Our birthday celebration evening was not so good with 7 of the 9 on our party commenting negatively.

Sharon Ward (15 May 2009)

This is the best Indian restaurant in the Midlands - excellent food, polite staff and beautiful surroundings. It’s well worth travelling too.
