The Leaping Hare Vineyard Restaurant
Wyken Hall, Stanton, Bury St Edmunds, IP31 2DW
Described as 'one of the pleasantest places to dine in the English countryside' the restaurant is located in a substantial barn on the Wyken Hall Estate. The menu is geared to what is available from the surrounding countryside, be it woods, pasture or garden. So asparagus would be in order in season, or failing that Wyken's own bresaola. Pan-fried breast of wood pigeon to follow, then a very mouth-tingling lemon and lime pie. As one might expect the Wyken wines feature large, from £14.50, a good price for wine of the country, assisted by around 40 or so from the rest of the world. Inevitably, given the quality of what they offer, recognition has now come, and in 2007 the restaurant was awarded the 'Best Resturant in Suffok' by the East Anglian Daily Times readers, whilst 2008 brought a prestigious 'Bib Gourmand' from the Michelin Guide.Described as 'one of the pleasantest places to dine in the English countryside' the restaurant is located in a substantial barn on the Wyken Hall Estate. REVIEWS OF The Leaping Hare Vineyard Restaurant
Hans Bouman (8 April 2011)
My wife and I stayed a few days in Suffolk during a short break from the Netherlands and the landlord of our B&B told us to go to the Leaping Hare. We are very glad we did. Very nice menu, very pleasant restaurant and efficient and friendly service. Next time we are in the vicinity, we are certain to visit again.
Elliott (12 November 2009)
My son and his new wife wondered where they could possibly take his grandfather to celebrate his 90th birthday as he has extremely high standards on food and wine, but dislikes bowing waiters and poor food and huge bills. They were delighted with their visit to the Leaping Hare earlier this month and everything was not only up to scratch but beyond expectation; the food, wine and the setting, all five stars without pretension. We can't wait to visit ourselves.
