The Magic Mushroom Restaurant
Barleylands Road, Billericay, CM11 2UD
There's a reason why Darren Bennet stays in the top rung of Billericay's leading chefs ever since he established The Magic Mushroom on Barleylands Road in 1996. The restaurant's relaxed setting and contemporary menu with a traditional influence are certainly a draw here. Start with marinated king prawns with spicy guacamole dip and smoked breast of partridge and pigeon with tomato and peach chutney. To keep you company in between courses are side dishes such as mashed potatoes, hand cut chips with aioli and creamed cabbage. For main course order roasted rump of salt marsh lamb with Boulangère potatoes, braised red cabbage and rosemary jus, and fillets of sea bass on garlic mash, crushed pea and mustard velouté and crispy leeks. There's a reason why Darren Bennet stays in the top rung of Billericay's leading chefs ever since he established The Magic Mushroom on Barleylands Road in 1996. REVIEWS OF The Magic Mushroom Restaurant
Lannette Lusk (27 May 2010)
I have been to this lovely restaurant on special occasions and the experience of their delicious food is a wonderful way of spending time with friends or family. I have never heard anything but great feedback from local people and it is the type of place you will always want to return to - it is clean and the tables look lovely at all time. Only a tiny, tiny moan - not enough for vegetarians, but you must visit this fantastic restaurant, you won't be disappointed. Tasty posh nosh!

It has really good food and that too not masked with loads of sauces. The service as it should be, first class, and it makes such a difference when the table is laid out right and the food is served to you properly by experienced waiters and waitresses. They have round tables for larger parties, making it much more comfortable and easier to talk to everyone. And another mark of a good restaurant is nice clean loos that are in good order.
